MedEd Pesticide FAQ
MedEd Pesticide answers common questions about its database and guides.
MedEd Pesticide Answers Questions About Its Database
What does "Not approved" mean in the MedEd Pesticide database?
Not approved means the EU has not approved the substance as an active ingredient in plant protection products. It does not mean the substance is banned everywhere.
What does US status mean in the MedEd Pesticide database?
Registered means EPA currently registers at least one pesticide product that contains the substance. Not registered means every product that contained it is cancelled. The pesticide label sets the legal use.
Why can EU status and US status differ?
The EU and the United States approve pesticides separately. A substance the EU has not approved can still be registered with EPA. The reverse also happens.
Where does MedEd Pesticide get its pesticide data?
MedEd Pesticide takes EU status, safety values and hazard classification from the EU Pesticides Database. US status comes from EPA product records, and chemical identity comes from PubChem.
Where do the toxicity values come from?
MedEd Pesticide takes lethal doses, no-effect levels and reference doses from EPA's Toxicity Values Database. Each record names its source and year.
Why do toxicity values for one pesticide differ?
Studies use different species, routes, durations and methods. A lethal dose in rats by mouth differs from one in rabbits on skin, so read the study details.
How current is the MedEd Pesticide database?
MedEd Pesticide shows the retrieval date on every pesticide page. The latest EU and PubChem pull was on 2026-10-16, and the EPA records are dated 2026-10-13.
Does MedEd Pesticide give medical advice?
No. MedEd Pesticide gives education only. In the United States, call Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222 after a suspected poisoning.
